At Streetly Smiles Dental Care, we want children to get off to the best start in life in regards to their oral health. Children are naturally born free from disease, and we want them to stay that way. Visits to the dentist from an early age help to build their confidence, and that is why we do not charge for routine check-ups for children under the age of 5.

Our aim is to inform and educate children so that they understand the importance of what it means to have healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime.
Regular dental check-ups and visits to the hygienist help them become accustomed to being in a dental surgery. Once their first teeth start to emerge you should start booking them in for routine check-ups so that their oral hygiene and the development of their teeth can be monitored. We will also advise you and the child on how to look after their teeth and gums, as it is always best to prevent tooth decay and gum disease before it occurs.
We recommend that you bring your child to see us so that we can provide the care that they deserve. This may typically include the following:
- Regular check-ups and hygiene appointments – to educate children and parents on how to keep gums and teeth healthy, and give advice on what food and drinks can be harmful to them
- Fluoride varnishes – to make teeth more resistant to tooth decay.
- Fissure Sealants – to protect teeth from cavities
- Advise when referral to a specialist may be required if there are any abnormalities in the development or eruption of the teeth
